Basic Truro Guide

Truro is a great centre for training in a really wide range of areas. The Truro team generally takes a reasonably relaxed attitude to registrars - some sessions such as HotHub and ultrasound you will be missed if you aren't there and should set up cover if you aren't going to be able to make it, but you are generally given a lot of white space on your timetable and it is up to you to a degree to make the most of it.

Guide to Cornwall!

At RCHT we recognise that most of you will have a long commute and be spending considerable time away from family and friends this year. We hear from previous trainees that the educational benefits of a placement at Truro outweigh the negatives, but to make this year most worthwhile, we would encourage you to make the most of your time - (weather permitting!) the area is incredibly beautiful and the opportunities for outdoor enjoyment immense.

IT in Truro is something of a mixed bag. The PACS team is great, but outside of that things can be pretty variable. Most general IT support and services are through the intranet - there is a direct shortcut on the desktop of most PCs to “

Truro - Portable Ultrasound

Portable ultrasound in Truro is provided rather informally by registrars. Requests for portable ultrasound get forwarded to the phone in the reg room, and it falls whoever is in the room and around to sort it out if needed.

The registrars are assigned a vetting silo to keep under control - basically all follow up cancer scans which really just need someone with FRCR to rubber stamp but occasionally there can be some minor issues.

This page exists to catalogue the specific riders, admin codes and other blocks of text Truro would like added to reports, and the circumstances in which they should be used. Truro generally doesn't specify lots of these, but there are a few ones that they are keen on.

SRU Ultrasound

While it can seem daunting, this list is a perfect one for getting exposure to and training in basic acute ultrasound. The pace and difficulty of the list is by and large up to you. The only real hurdle is the admin is also up to you - there is generally an ICA who may know how things work, but that's a bit hit and miss.
